Types of Travel Insurance

Multi Trip Insurance

When purchasing a travel insurance policy you will need to consider the type of policy to buy. There a basically only two types of travel insurance, the first is a policy that only covers one specified journey, known as a single trip policy, and the other will cover all journeys made within a specified 12 month period, known as an annual multi-trip policy.

There will, however, be a requirement to meet with respect to length of residence and registration with a local GP in order to qualify for cover under either policy. I don’t know of any full travel insurance policy available to a UK resident that doesn’t require you to be registered with a local GP, although there are some limited policies, limited both in the amount of cover and the scope of the policy that can be bought without having being registered with a local GP. The length of residency criteria can vary from no restriction, through 6 of the last 12 months, to the strictest of them being the last 6 months continuous residence prior to purchase, although short holidays are permitted to have been taken during the 6 months.

Travel Insurance – General Information & Advice

Order Travel Insurance

Holidays should be times where you are able to escape from the day-to-day routine and fully relax in a far-away country, and in an ideal world this is exactly what a holiday would entail. For some though, this isn’t the case, and this is why adequate travel insurance is a vital component to ensure you are not left footing the often very steep bill if anything goes wrong.

Although the level of travel insurance cover varies widely, depending on personal circumstances and holiday requirements; almost all policies include medical and healthcare cover.

It is recommended that when travelling within the EU a policy covering up to £1m should be taken out, and when outside of the EU this figure increases to around £2m. This is because of the horrendously steep medical bills that some countries charge, or if for example you need to be airlifted from a remote location.

It’s important to note that if you wish to participate in almost any extreme sport then specialist health care should be sought, as many standard policies do not make provisions for this.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary

Cheap Travel Insurance

The question I want to asnswer is this: “is travel insurance necessary”. I’m sue this will divide those that read this brief article, and I expect that to be effected wholly on ones own experiences.

According to a survey conducted by Survey Monkey of 1,011 UK adults, one in five people go on holiday or travel the world without travel insurance. Of these, one in ten wil ldo so consciously, one in twenty accidentally, and one in twenty never take out travel insurance at all.

Now, are these people correct in avoiding the financial outlay for insurance when the likelihood is that it wil go unrequired?
